Professor M. Venkateshkumar
Trained by Pt. Puttaraj Gawayi in Hindustani classical music who bequeathed to Venkateshkumar the Kirana and the Gwalior gharana styles of singing with all its nuances. Venkateshkumar went on to receive his postgraduate degree from the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
Born in Bellary, Karnataka, Venkateshkumar was deeply influenced by his artist father, leading him to embrace artistic traditions. His rendering of the Vachanas and Haridasakritis are rich in devotion and bhava. He has presented Vachana performances at Sharana Sahitya Parishat and Basava Samiti of Bangalore. Their popularity has led to Venkateshkumar becoming a household favourite throughout Karnataka. 
 
Venkateshkumar has presented recitals at the Sawai Gandharva Sangeetotsava, Pune; D.V. Paluskar Sangeet Samaroh, Delhi; Alladhya Khan Festival, Mumbai; ITC Music Festival, Kolkata; Swati Thirunal Festival, Thiruvananthapuram; Kalakshetra Festival, Chennai; Dasara Utsav, Mysore; Hampi Utsav, Karnataka; and Navarasapur Utsav, Bijapur, among many others. He has also performed at all major music festivals in India and abroad including at the AKKA Kannada Sammelan in Florida.
 
He is the recipient of several honours including: Karnataka Rajyo Utsav Award, 1999; Karnataka Sangeet Natya Academy Award 2007; Sharana Sahitya Parishat’s Ramanashree Award, 2007; Vatsalathal Bhimsen Joshi Award, 2007; the FIE Foundation Award; and recently the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2011
 
Venkateshkumar teaches music at the Karnatak College of Music, Dharwad.
